B&O Wartime composite hoppers N-37 RTR set of 3 Road numbers 30740, 30911, and 31019, by PROTO-2000.
Wooden panel version of an all-steel offset-side open hopper car design, proposed in 1935 by the car committee of
the Association of American Railroads, became the AAR standard fifty ton twin hopper car. With WWII approaching,
the AAR car committee was authorized to develop a War Emergency hopper in which wood would be used where possible
in place of sheet steel. Almost eleven thousand of these War Emergency fifty ton composite twin hoppers were built
between late 1942 and early 1945
