Upcoming B&O Railroad Historical Society Sponsored Events of Interest

Monthly Archives Work Sessions: ~Disregard these comments during the COVID restrictions.~ Our Society Archives hosts a series of Archives work days or work sessions on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 9 AM to whatever time attendees decide to stop. Some months the session is held on the 2nd Saturday, as when a holiday interferes with the 3rd weekend. Also, there usually is no session in December. The Society Archives is located in the Society's Building at Eldersburg, Maryland. See our Contacts link for the actual address and a map of the area. Spend a whole day or just a few hours. It is also a good opportunity to meet Society members and a few of the officers who frequently drop by during the day. If you are interested in joining us for a day of sorting, cataloging, or just looking through the Society's large collection of original B&O papers, documents, and blueprints, or to work on some research you may be interested in, please send an email to the Archives folks. Thanks go to all of you who work with our Archives group each month.

The 2023 Society Annual Convention and Business Meeting will be held from SEPTEMBER 7 to 10. The location will be Cincinnati OH. This is a member only event. A flyer will be available with all the official information for registration and lodging. There are speakers, a tour, a banquet, and then the annual business meeting on Sunday morning.

Western Mini-Con. Each year in May, the western contingent of the Society holds a mini-con in Ohio featuring guest speakers and (maybe) Company Store sales. In 2023 the event was scheduled to be held on Saturday, May 6 in Worthington Ohio. Unfortunately, a problem has been found with the selected site, and the event cannot be held there. An effort is being made to secure another site, but the date will be no earlier than late summer. When the meeting has been re-scheduled, the flyer will be linked below and on the Home Page under Society Events.

Eastern Mini-Con. Each year in July, the eastern contingent of the Society holds a mini-con featuring guest speakers and Company Store sales at the BORHS HQ Building in Eldersburg MD. This year the date will be July 22. Virtual attendance on Zoom may be provided but is limited to 90. A flyer is included in the second quarter mailing of the Sentinel at which time it will also be available for download from a link below and on the Home Page under Society Events. For further questions, please contact Eastminicon.

Non-Members

You "should" be a member to enjoy our one-day mini-conferences but you "must" be a member to attend our annual conventions held in September or October each year. As seating is limited at mini-conference sites, members get priority over non-members. Please consider joining our Society.

See our Membership page for information on becoming a member. Belonging to the Society provides a significant value in return. Benefits include invitations to our all conventions, plus you receive 4 issues per year of The Sentinel, delivered to your mailbox or available as a downloaded PDF. Also you get opportunities to purchase new models, books, and video’s related to the B&O as soon as they hit the market, at a discount from list prices. Our Company Store on this website has a wide selection of serious B&O items for historians, modelers or B&O fans. If you are a modeler, our downloaded Reprints contain information needed to accurately depict a B&O scenario, in many cases down to a particular year.

Our annual conventions are not huge affairs where you'll be lost in the shuffle. They are typically a gathering of 75-100 friendly folks where great sharing of B&O history and modeling takes place. Annual Conventions feature a bus tour of local B&O interest, and where possible, tours of railroad facilities or industries served by the railroad. Don't miss the fellowship with a great bunch of people. We hope you will go to the Membership page and sign up.
